the days blend into one
colors, once vibrant, bleed grey
draw the covers until it’s done
block the sun to hide away

build a fortress, build a wall
lock words up tight
with a chain and ball
so they can’t take flight

friends, gone
heart, bruised
a darkened dawn
the last hope, used

you stare, but can’t see
living, but not alive
there are words to free
but you just survive

the volcano will burst
the tears will break free
the night will be cursed
if you just let it be

holding in is not strong
selfless, kind or brave
it’s scary, risky and wrong
for it digs the heart a grave

words have weight, they matter
they give power to the weak
light will make darkness scatter
when you but speak.
